After a brief stint at St. Joseph’s College in Philadephia, Lane moved to New York City to pursue acting. Discovering that there was already a Joseph Lane registered with Actors Equity, he changed his name to Nathan after the character Nathan Detroit from “Guys and Dolls”. Lane is best known for his roles as Albert in “The Birdcage”, Mendy in “The Lisbon Traviata”, Max Bialystock in “The Producers”, Ernie Smuntz in “MouseHunt”, Nathan Detroit in “Guys and Dollas”, Pseudolus in “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”, and his voiceover work in “The Lion King” and “Stuart Little”. He won the1996 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and the 2001 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for “The Producers”.
